Xiaomi’s latest budget phone, the Redmi 14C, went official in the international market a few weeks ago. This thing brings a unique design, a big display, and a big battery to name a few. And now, it has landed here in Nepal as well. So let’s take a closer look at the Redmi 14C, alongside its features, availability, official price in Nepal, and more.
Being the successor to the Redmi 13C, the Redmi 14C looks distinctly different. We have a large circular camera island aligned at the centre instead of a squircle one on the side. Meanwhile, the color choices are Dreamy Purple, Sage Green, and Midnight Black in Nepal.
The screen on the Redmi 14C has grown quite heftily and measures 6.88 inches. While the size may be absolutely massive, the display itself is pretty mediocre. It offers HD+ resolution only and 8-bit colors with 70% NTSC gamut coverage. The brightness on this thing caps out at 600 nits. However, it does offer a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz.
As per the leak, the Redmi 14C was supposed to arrive with the MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra. However, the phone has arrived with Helio G81 Ultra instead. It is a debut chipset and appears to be an update to the G80 processor from 2020. While the core architecture and peak frequency appear to be unchanged, it could have had a newer fabrication process.
In the meantime, the Redmi 14C comes in three different configurations. Those being 4GB + 128GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB. The RAM in here is an LPDDR4X while the storage is eMMC 5.1. The Redmi 14C phone supports memory extension by an additional 8GB. There is an option for storage expansion as well, however, the upper limit of it is unknown. As for software, the Redmi 14C boots on Xiaomi’s in-house HyperOS straight out of the box.
The Redmi 14C seems to have a four-camera setup, but that is not the case. Two of the cutouts on the back don’t even house any lenses. One is an LED flash while the other is used for “50MP AI Camera” branding. Yes, the Redmi 14C comes with a 50MP primary sensor. Regarding another lens, even the company says “Auxiliary lens” and shrugs it off. Hence, this phone effectively has a single camera setup. On the front, there is a 13MP unit for selfies and face unlock.
Battery-wise, the Redmi 14C comes with a 5,160 mAh cell and supports 18W fast charging through a USB Type-C interface. It has a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button for further security. Meanwhile, for wireless connectivity, it supports dual SIM, 4G cellular, Bluetooth v5.4, dual-band WiFi, and NFC in select regions.
